Chicago Cubs Rumors: 5 blockbuster trades for selling now
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Cubs could trade Craig Kimbrel to the San Francisco Giants
Lastly, we go back once again to Kimbrel. Looking at a team like the San Francisco Giants, one has to wonder just how big they will go at the deadline. Adding a bullpen arm would certainly help in a division race that continues to get more and more heated.
Sitting atop the NL West, the Giants are looking closely down at the Los Angeles Dodgers. But, the San Diego Padres have been on a roll as of late and could sneak up on both the Dodgers and Giants in a hurry. San Francisco could make multiple moves at the deadline, this one being for the Cubs’ polarizing bullpen arm.
In our final trade, the Cubs would receive the Giants’ number four overall prospect, outfielder Hunter Bishop (no. 65 on MLB Top 100). They would also get the Giants’ number 13 overall prospect in righty Gregory Santos.
This may not be the type of package the Cubs would want initially, but one that they could end up settling for closer to the final moments of the deadline. Again, Chicago would probably want a top-50 prospect for Kimbrel. However, if they cannot get a return that high and are intent on blowing it up, then getting a couple of young guys like this would be fair.
