Chicago Cubs’ starting pitcher trade candidates: John Means

With the second-worst record in the Majors, the Baltimore Orioles are defined sellers this year. There is no doubt about it. Baltimore will be selling and looking to obtain as much value in return for their trade candidates.

One of the best starting pitchers that may be dealt is Orioles lefty John Means. The only problem is, like Boyd, Means is currently injured. Means left a June 5th start in the first inning with a shoulder injury. The positive, here, is that he did indeed avoid anything too serious. However, Means is also out through the All Star Break, making it an interesting predicament for the Orioles and any potential trade.

If Means is indeed back and healthy, the above package would be something along the lines of what Baltimore is looking for. Means is currently one of the only major highlights on a bad Orioles team, led by his 2.28 ERA and 0.83 WHIP.

At just 28 years old and only being in the MLB since 2018, Means’ future looks incredibly bright. He’s quite the package to land if you’re a team looking for starting pitching. The only question is, would the Cubs really invest this much in a trade during a season where they may not be able to justify it via a playoff run?
