The Chicago Cubs are in a very interesting spot. They always seem to be either very hot or very cold which has led to them being in the spot they are in now. They trail the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the NL Central Division by 2.0 games going into their Sunday night baseball game vs the Los Angeles Dodgers. It is as much of a must-win game as one can be at the end of June. It is very important to win for a variety of reasons.

The Cubs got this series with the Dodgers off on the right foot. They also made a little bit of history along the way as they combined to no-hit them on Thursday night. Zach Davies, Ryan Tepera, Andrew Chafin, and Craig Kimbrel stopped that very good Dodgers lineup from getting anything going offensively unless it was a walk. Obviously, they won the game and were feeling good about themselves.

The Dodgers went into the Friday night game a little mad, however. They ended up taking it by a final score of 6-2. The Cubs had the game tied in the 7th but they allowed the Dodgers to score four runs in the bottom of the 8th inning which led to the loss.

On Saturday night, they were in good condition as they were tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the 9th. Unfortunately, Cody Bellinger hit a solo home run to give the Dodgers the walk-off victory and give them a chance to win the series on Sunday. The Cubs would do themselves a lot of favors if they split the series.

The Chicago Cubs would love to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers on national TV.

This is important for a variety of reasons. The first (and perhaps most obvious) is the fact that they need to win as many baseball games as they can because of how tight the race is. After this game is done, however, they fly to Milwaukee to play that Brewers team that they are battling for first place with. Getting an extra win against the Dodgers beforehand would be really nice.

This game will be ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. It is a dandy of a pitching matchup too as Adbert Alzolay is going to face off against Clayton Kershaw. The Cubs tagged up Kershaw pretty well the last time they met so you can only hope that they do it again. Alzolay has had an up and down season but they need to be confident that he can get it done. This could go down as one of the more important games of the first half of the season when it is all said and done.
