The Chicago Cubs have five players that are finalists to be an All-Star Game starter in 2021. We don’t know who is actually going to make the team but the fan vote simply determines the starters. Phase one was to narrow it down to three players at each position from each league and phase two will determine who of the three finalists will be the winner. Seeing that the Cubs have five players shows how well the team has played this season, despite some early-season drama.

The Chicago Cubs are hoping to send lots of players to the 2021 MLB All-Star Game.

For the Cubs, the finalists at their positions are Anthony Rizzo at first base, Javier Baez at shortstop, Kris Bryant at third base, Joc Pederson for the outfield, and Willson Contreras at catcher. It is a very solid group of players that all have All-Star caliber talent. It is nice to see the Cubs well represented in this group of National League stars.

The Cubs have what is known as a “big four” and Baez, Willson, Rizzo, and Bryant make that up. They have been the core of the team for a long time now and are always in the mix for the All-Star Game. After mostly lackluster years in 2020, all four of them have had good years so far as they try to get back to the playoffs again.

With all of that in mind, Joc Pederson has the be the most surprising of the Cubs nominees. He isn’t a part of the core as he is brand new to the organization. He spent a long time with the Los Angeles Dodgers before making his way over to Chicago. He had a tough start to the season but has since caught fire. Whether he wins phase two or not, he is well-deserving of some recognition.

The MLB All-Star Game is going to take place on July 13th at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. The home of the Colorado Rockies hosting the mid-summer is going to be really exciting. You can expect to see lots of Chicago flavor in the game with both sides of town having fantastic seasons so far. If the Cubs are lucky enough to have a couple of National League All-Stars, that will make it even better for fans of the team rooting on the National League.

One note worth mentioning is the fact that every player listed here is in the final year of a contract except for Willson Contreras who has two. Being named All-Stars could make things even harder on the organization in terms of getting them signed but that is the boat the team is in right now. The fact that not all of these guys will be back next season is a bit worrisome.
