2021 offensive predictions for running back David Montgomery

272 carries

1,428 yards

10 touchdowns

34 receptions

280 yards

2 receiving touchdowns

Over his last six games of 2020, David Montgomery averaged a tick shy of 100 yards per game on the ground. He finished last season on an absolute tear. Now, is it fair to think he could keep that going in 2021? Probably not. That would be a lofty expectation. However, could he average around 80-84 yards per game? Absolutely.

If Montgomery posted 84.0 rushing yards per game, he’d be right at the number projected above. Rushing for nearly 1,500 yards would be quite an accomplishment for the third-year back, who also showed he could catch the football as well. Assuming he participates in the passing game, Montgomery might end up inching his way close to 2,000 yards from scrimmage.

Getting Tarik Cohen back, though, will likely hurt Montgomery’s receiving numbers — and that’s O.K. The Bears need Montgomery to be consistent on the ground and only occasionally catch a pass now that they have Cohen back, along with Damien Williams.

Get ready for a huge season for Montgomery, in any event.
