The Chicago Blackhawks need as many new defensemen as they can get.

The Chicago Blackhawks know all about Alex Martinez. He is the player who scored the overtime game-winning goal in game seven of the 2014 Western Conference Finals between the Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings. The Kings went on to win the Stanley Cup over the New York Rangers. In the overtime period of game five in that Stanley Cup Final, Martinez scored a series-winning overtime goal for the second series in a row.

That series where Martinez ended the Hawks season stopped them in their quest to win the Stanley Cup for the second year in a row. Martinez is a two-time champion who has a knack for performing in clutch moments. If the Hawks brought in a defenseman like this, they would be looking much better for a few years on the blue line.

Martinez has had a nice 12-year career so far. At 33 years old, you would think that he has a lot left in the tank. In 2020-21, Martinez led all Golden Knights defensemen in goals with 9. He also had 23 assists for 32 points in 53 games. He also had a CorsiFor of 52.4 which would be a phenomenal upgrade for the Hawks who love giving up high danger shots. He would be a short-term upgrade in every way.

If someone plays for the Vegas Golden Knights, that means they are probably a very good player. That team seems to do everything right so the Hawks would be smart to look their way this summer. Either way, the hope has to be that the decisions made help make them have a brighter future.
