Playoff free agents for the Chicago Bulls to pursue: SF Derrick Jones Jr.

Derrick Jones Jr. is most well-known for his high-flying dunks than anything else, but the Portland Trail Blazers may have misused him in his only season with the team.

After the Norman Powell trade, the Blazers seemed to completely disregard Jones in their rotation. Jones hardly saw any time on the court during the playoffs, and he looks to be gone this summer. The Blazers didn’t exactly use him correctly this year, regardless of the Powell trade.

This summer, Jones could opt into a $9 million salary for the 2021-2022 season. But, he could also bet on himself and look to earn a longer deal worth more money.

The Bulls need to add a wing player or two this summer after trading both Otto Porter Jr. and Chandler Hutchison last season. Garrett Temple’s contract is up, although they could always bring him back as one of the glue guys on this roster. Jones would be a strong option, too, at just 23 years old.

Jones is a talented guy in terms of cutting or working off ball screens. He’s not going to fill it up from deep, but Jones is one of those guys you bring in off the bench for a good chunk of minutes because his athleticism and potential to create momentum plays is certainly there.
