The Chicago Blackhawks might need some help in the blue paint going forward.

One of the most interesting stories in the 2021 NHL offseason is Boston Bruins goaltending. For a very long time now, Tuukka Rask has been their number one. He has been a generatitonal goalie so they have been very fortunate. For the last few years, Jaroslav Halak backed up Rask and they formed one of the best goalie duos in the National Hockey League. Now, they are both free agents at the exact same time.

Rask is going to miss a very long time with an injury. He claims that he doesn’t want to play with any other team besides the Boston Bruins so his future is very cloudy. It sounds like he will either retire or come back to the Bruins when he is healthy. We all thought Halak played his last game with the Bruins but the Rask news changed everything.

Young guys like Jeremy Swayman and Daniel Vladar look like they may be ready to split time with the Bruins but that remains to be seen. If they don’t go back to Halak, he is still going to try and play next season. He is 36 years old so it wouldn’t be a long contract no matter what team he is with.

The Chicago Blackhawks have Kevin Lankinen but that is the only goalie on the roster that anyone should have even the slightest confidence in. If you had him and Halak form a 50/50 duo, they might be able to get by with some good goaltending.

We don’t know for sure how active the Hawks are going to be in free agency but you can expect them to at least make a couple of moves. If they do, the Boston Bruins are certainly a team to take a look at.
