The National Hockey League is currently a few games into the Stanley Cup Semi-Final but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill to start up. The Chicago Blackhawks are in the middle of it as they are being connected to players like Dougie Hamilton and Seth Jones. There is also a report from The Athletic that states that if they were to make a huge trade, Kirby Dach could be involved. It is something to keep an eye on for all fans of this team.

It sounds like the Chicago Blackhawks are going to be a busy team this offseason.

Dougie Hamilton is a pending free agent so he is free to go wherever he wants. As for Seth Jones, the Hawks would need to put together a huge trade package in order to acquire a player like that. Kirby Dach would probably have to go the other way in a deal for Jones. According to that article from The Athletic, they believe it would be totally worth it too.

The Blackhawks selected Dach with the third overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. It was an interesting pick for them as he wasn’t the consensus number three guy. Most people believe that they should have selected defenseman Bowen Byram with that pick but they let him get to Colorado at four.

It probably would have been a good idea to take Byram because now they might make Dach an expendable piece for a defenseman that makes a lot more money. That, however, is in the past. There have been countless mistakes made by Stan Bowman since winning the Stanley Cup in 2015 and that is just one of the many.

As for Jones, he is an unrestricted free agent after the 2021-22 season and has told the Columbus Blue Jackets that he plans on testing the free-agent market. The Hawks have pretty much been tied to him as a trade target ever since. It would take a lot, as mentioned before, to get him over to Chicago, and then they would have to think about handing out a long-term contract.

It would also probably cost more than just Kirby Dach as well. He has been pretty good in his first two years but Jones is a number one defenseman that helps you win every night. It is certainly going to be a lengthy discussion within the organization as they try to decide what to do here.

Chances are that Seth Jones alone, along with the subtractions via trade, won’t be enough to make this Hawks team a playoff-bound squad. All of these things will be thought of in the meetings but it is interesting to already hear Dach’s name in trade rumors just two years into his career.
