Chicago Bears: 5 dark horse candidates to make the final roster

Dark horse candidates to make Chicago Bears roster: WR Riley Ridley
It may seem odd that you see a fourth-round pick from two years ago on this list, but the reality is, the Bears have some serious competition at wide receiver this year. Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney are the locks to make the roster. But, behind those two, anything could happen.
Chicago also has newcomers Damiere Byrd and Marquise Goodwin on the roster now, both of whom provide a ton of speed. This year’s sixth-round pick Dazz Newsome is now in the mix, too. The Bears also have Anthony Miller, Javon Wims and of course Riley Ridley returning. That’s a total of eight guys who all have a chance to make this roster.
If the Bears even entertained keeping seven receivers, who would the odd man out be? Chances are, it could be either Wims or Ridley.
Since being drafted a couple of years ago, Ridley has hardly played due to not being able to transition as quickly as the Bears would have liked him to. But, he’s still a physically gifted player who runs routes better than most. If they cut him, they’d be losing a good football player, period.
Some would still like to see him get a chance in the slot, though, and potentially take Anthony Miller’s spot on the roster when the Bears ultimately move on from him. Does that happen this year?
