Dark horse candidates to make Chicago Bears roster: CB Tre Roberson

Last season, the Bears signed cornerback Tre Roberson to the richest deal a former CFL player had ever signed. Unfortunately, Roberson broke his foot and never ended up making the team at the end of the day.

However, Roberson is back with the Bears this year and could push for a spot on the roster.

Cornerback is a position the Bears should be nervous about, and someone with Roberson’s experience might come in handy. Behind Chicago’s starters Jaylon Johnson and Desmond Trufant, the Bears have some younger guys who haven’t really proved much. There’s also veteran Artie Burns who is coming off a serious ACL injury from last year.

Roberson was the CFL’s top cornerback a year ago and looked like he could make it as an NFL player. Even though the Bears have more continuity with guys like Kindle Vildor, Duke Shelley and even Michael Joseph, Roberson could be a much more valuable player. His ball skills are probably better than all three of those guys, and if Johnson or Trufant go down to injury, they’ll need someone with the confidence to take over and play well.

Out of all the backups on this roster, Roberson actually seems like he would be the ideal candidate to take over.
