Chicago Bulls land Luka Doncic in these 3 trade packages
By Ryan Heckman
Trade 1: The Chicago Bulls give up a load of picks to land Luka Doncic
The first and maybe the most outlandish proposition in trading for Doncic would see the Bulls first begin with dealing third-year point guard Coby White. If the Mavericks end up trading Luka, they would likely want a young player and preferably a point guard coming back in return. They get that in White.
What they also get, though, is a hefty haul of first-round picks — four, to be exact.
There is a rule within the NBA that prevents teams from trading consecutive first-round draft picks, so these picks would be spread out every other year. The Bulls also cannot trade a first rounder more than seven years out, so this trade would have to happen after the 2021 NBA Draft due to the 2028 first rounder currently being eight drafts away.
In the end, this trade is all about building for the future. If the Mavericks did indeed part with Luka, they would have to ensure they were set up for as much possible success down the road as possible. Losing someone of Doncic’s magnitude would sting deeply. Returning four first-round picks? That might help ease the burn a little bit.
