Chicago Bears breakout candidates who could be cut: RB C.J. Marable

Suddenly, the Chicago Bears depth at running back is stacked with players who have a variety of talents. Obviously, the starting job belongs to a guy who could blossom into one of the league’s top backs, David Montgomery. Coming off a season that saw him finish as the league’s fifth-leading rusher, Montgomery is ready to take another leap in Year 3.

The Bears also have Tarik Cohen coming back from injury and newly-signed Damien Williams. Both of these guys should make the roster without question. But the Bears also drafted Khalil Herbert out of Virginia Tech, and this kid could do some damage on special teams.

So, that’s four running backs the Bears will likely keep on the roster. But, they also signed former Coastal Carolina running back C.J. Marable as an undrafted free agent this year. Marable is a do-it-all running back with decent size at 5-foot-10, 200 pounds. He has totaled 33 touchdowns from scrimmage over the past two seasons in college and has done it in multiple ways.

Marable is a shifty player and catches the ball well. He caught 69 passes over the past two years in college and totaled 10 touchdowns through the air as well. He’s a sneaky good running back that could help the Bears in future seasons after their one-year rental of Williams is up, but as a fifth running back on the roster (maybe even sixth considering Ryan Nall) there isn’t much room for him.
