Chicago Bears breakout candidates who could be cut: WR Riley Ridley

The Bears are going to have a very competitive group at wide receiver this summer. They have added plenty of talent to their core, via the draft and through free agency. 2019 fourth rounder Riley Ridley has yet to make an impact as a pro, but he also hasn’t been given much opportunity.

As he enters his third year, Ridley is at a crossroads. This is do or die for him in Chicago. Sure, if he’s cut, he’ll end up getting a shot elsewhere. But, the Bears could also regret not giving him a real opportunity to shine.

With rookie Dazz Newsome out for a while with a collarbone injury, Anthony Miller will have no problem keeping his slot role. But, what if the Bears gave Ridley more of a chance at that position? Let’s not forget, this guy was known as one of the best route runners in his class.

Ridley has reportedly had issues making the switch from college to pro, and some has to do with learning the playbook. But, in Year 3, he should finally be ready to make an impact. Will he get that shot, though? The Bears have Marquise Goodwin and Damiere Byrd now, who provide much more speed than Ridley — and that’s something Nagy historically loves.

With Allen Robinson, Darnell Mooney and Javon Wims also in camp this year, Ridley is going to have a lot of guys to beat out. Obviously, Robinson and Mooney are locks. Newsome and Miller should also be pretty set. Where does Ridley fit? The Bears may regret not giving him a true opportunity now that it could be too late.
