Chicago Bears: 5 available players the Bears could add before camp
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears could sign cornerback Gareon Conley
Arguably the most worrisome position for the Bears, going into training camp, is at cornerback. Since losing Kyle Fuller, the Bears have had quite the void there. Even after signing Desmond Trufant, fans are no where near as confident as they were last year. Fuller was an All Pro.
Trufant and Jaylon Johnson should be a fine duo, but neither are guaranteed health either. They have both had their injury issues in the past. It may sound confusing, suggesting the Bears sign another cornerback who has had injury issues. But, Gareon Conley still has a lot of traits that make him worth signing.
The former Ohio State standout was a first-round pick back in 2017 but has had a string of bad luck with injuries. If he proves to be healthy, Conley still shows plenty of upside as a 25-year-old trying to make it in this league.
One of the more impressive stats regarding Conley is the fact that he’s forced incompletions on 22.2 percent of his targets — the second-best rate since 2017 (h/t Bleacher Report).
Adding competition at cornerback is probably the best position to do so before camp, and Conley is a name worth looking at.
