9. . SP. Chicago Cubs. Zach Davies. 27. player

The Chicago Cubs would be smart to trade Zach Davies no matter what the situation is.

Zach Davies is a decent pitcher but he has been pretty inconsistent at times. The fact that he came back to the Cubs in the Yu Darvish trade will make people look at him differently. Anyone expecting him to come even close to Darvish just has unrealistic expectations. He is a good pitcher but never a dominant pitcher. He is one of the guys that MLB Trade Rumors has listed as someone the Cubs could trade. It is an interesting name because not many people peg him as one of Chicago’s big trade targets.

Davies is a free agent after this year so it will be interesting to see what his future brings. He may want to stay but it will all depend on what the Cubs see as their competitive window. If someone offers anything good for him, they should do it immediately. A good team might be looking for a number four that can be ready if needed once the playoffs roll around.

A lot of what happens with Davies will depend on how the Cubs do between now and the deadline. He currently has a 2-3 record with a 4.94 ERA. Those totals are both well below his career average. His WAR on the season is at a modest 0.0 which is kind of strange. He has no positive or negative value so far this year, he is just sort of there. It was weird to see his name there at first but it makes sense once you research it.
