MLB Trade Rumors is a great website that has a lot of fun content. They just released their new ranking for the top MLB Trade Deadline candidates and there is some useful information in there. No Chicago Cubs players were listed in the top 40 but five of them were pegged as “players to watch”. It makes you wonder if the Cubs are actually going to pull the trigger on these guys.

The Chicago Cubs have a lot of decisions to make over the course of the next two years.

MLB Trade Rumors just released this as a resource to show which players might get attention on the trade market. Nothing they say there about the Cubs is untrue. They are one of the better teams with players listed on there as most of them are the traditional last place seller teams. The Cubs are a good team if they stay intact but the question has to remain, how good?

They will fight with the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the division all season long if they don’t trade away anyone. Can they beat the San Diego Padres or the Los Angeles Dodgers in the playoffs is the next question? If they did somehow, could they beat the Chicago White Sox, Houston Astros, or Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series? All of these things have to be decided because time is running out.

If you keep them all and don’t make a deep run, you run the risk of losing some key players for nothing. The Cubs will have some contract negotiations over the next few months but if anyone confirms they aren’t coming back, they may get moved.
