Chicago Bears: The top 10 most important players of 2021
By Ryan Heckman
Most important Chicago Bears of 2021: Darnell Mooney
Spoiler alert: Allen Robinson does not make this list. We should already know what to expect from him. He’s going to give you a solid 6-10 receptions a game and make some incredible catches along the way.
Darnell Mooney, on the other hand, is yet another player we want to see show out as a second-year pro. This offense has the potential to be special if a lot of things go right. One of those things is Mooney establishing himself as a rising star.
He has the speed to get behind a defense in a hurry, and his moves after the catch are actually quite underrated. If he can gel with the quarterbacks on this roster and prove to be a reliable WR2, the passing game could take a gigantic step forward.
As a fifth-round rookie, Mooney surprised by hauling in 61 passes for 631 yards and four touchdowns. Nobody expected him to take on such a big role as a rookie, but he ended up impressing and taking a lot of time away from Anthony Miller.
Assuming the Bears’ run game continues where it left off in 2020, Mooney’s impact could be greatly felt if he takes it up a notch in 2021.
