Most important Chicago Bears of 2021: Justin Fields

Why on earth is a rookie quarterback the most important player of 2021? It’s pretty simple. Justin Fields has a ceiling that could make this Bears team one of the more dangerous teams in all of football. It all depends on if he can develop at a quicker pace and play well as a rookie. But, to play well as a rookie he also needs to be given the starting job sooner rather than later.

It is pretty obvious that Fields at his best is going to be a totally different monster than Andy Dalton at his best. Dalton, at his best, might get the Bears to seven or eight wins this year. Fields, on the other hand, could be the guy who gets the Bears to double-digit wins even amidst a tough schedule.

If Fields is given the opportunity and hits his stride early on, the offense is going to look so different from any offense we’ve ever seen in Chicago. The ability to take off and make game-changing plays with his legs will allow Fields to bust games wide open. His abilities will force defenses to game plan differently.

Dalton is a pretty easy quarterback to prepare for, if you’re a defensive coordinator. He doesn’t offer much outside of being a pocket passer. If Fields is able to take the job and run with it, he will be the number one reason why this team succeeds in 2021, period.
