Chicago Cubs: 3 insane trade packages for Max Scherzer
The Chicago Cubs might have to give up a top-two prospect to get a pitcher like that.
The Chicago Cubs didn’t get back a top-level prospect when they sent Yu Darvish to the San Diego Padres over the winter. That is why people were upset with the deal and assumed it was them giving up on 2021. Well, they certainly aren’t going to get an elite pitcher without giving up a good prospect or two. If they really wanted a player like Max Scherzer, they might have to give up someone even higher in the pool than Ed Howard.
For the Cubs, Brennan Davis is their number two guy. He is an outfield that projects to reach Major League Baseball in 2022. The Cubs might call him up down the stretch or sometime next year if they keep him but he could be useful in a trade. He was their second-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft and is currently 21 years old.
Own Caissie is currently listed as the Cubs’ 11th best prospect. He was one of the four prospects that came with Zach Davies in the Yu Darvish trade. Caissie was San Diego’s second-round pick in 2020 so there is a good chance he makes it to Major League Baseball. He has a projected Major League arrival in 2024 so there is still some more development to go. You never know how things go for players like that.
There is no rumor or anything like that, this is all going off a conversation heard on the radio. If Scherzer came into the Cubs rotation right now, he would be their ace. He would probably be the guy who starts game one of the playoffs if they make it. All of the sudden, Kyle Hendriks and Adbert Alzolay look much better slotted down the list a little bit with an ace like that. We don’t know how things are going to go but the month of July has a lot to do with it you would think.
