Chicago Blackhawks: 3 wild trade packages for Mitch Marner
The Chicago Blackhawks can address one of their problems in a Marner trade too.
The Chicago Blackhawks haven’t been very good in the first round of the draft lately. The jury is still out on the 2020 Draft so we won’t go there. In 2019, they drafted Kirby Dach who is a great player. As good of a player as Dach is, not taking Bowen Byram with that third overall pick is going to be looked at as a mistake in short order. Adam Boqvist isn’t very good and they traded away Henri Jokiharju so giving up first-round picks for elite players is worth it.
As mentioned before, the Leafs need defense in the worst way. If the Hawks traded them Nikita Zadorov, they would have to resign him as he is an RFA. It is hard to peg how much he is worth but it shouldn’t be too much as he is an extremely flawed defenseman as well. Nicolas Beaudin is a young defenseman that needs to be in a lineup every day. With the way that the Leafs’ cap situation is, they would love to add a solid cheap defenseman like him.
The Blackhawks and Maple Leafs could absolutely work on something involving Marner if both parties are involved. Obviously, Marner makes a lot of money so other moves would have to be made by the Hawks but they should be able to create the cap space if they want to. The Hawks are a long way away from title contention but at least having Marner would be entertaining.
