Ian Cole would be great for defensive depth on the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Chicago Blackhawks have one of the worst defenses in the NHL. They traded away Henri Jokiharju to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Alex Nylander who is horrible. They also drafted Adam Boqvist in the first round and you aren’t winning with him either so some highly drafted defensemen are basically useless at this point in time. That is why they might consider adding some short-term help this offseason.

If the Hawks added someone like Ian Cole right now, they would be a much better defensive team in 2021-22. He isn’t going to be a game-breaker or anything like that but he will just be a solid piece on the blue line for the Hawks. They need a veteran back there to eat minutes while guys like Ian Mitchell and Nicolas Beaudin develop.

Cole isn’t dominating anyone offensively as he only had one goal and seven assists for eight points in 54 games. You can, however, put him out there against the team’s best players. With the Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Wild, and St. Louis Blues coming back to the Central Division in 2021-22, he might be just what they need. If they can get him to come to play for them, he is probably the perfect fit as the defensive defenseman on the second pair.
