Blackhawks: 3 Toronto Maple Leafs free agents to consider
If the Chicago Blackhawks want more leadership, Nick Foligno would be a great option.
Nick Foligno has had a fun NHL career so far. He started off with the Ottawa Senators for five seasons to begin his career. He then moved to the Columbus Blue Jackets and he played there for parts of nine seasons. He was the captain of the organization for a long time too so you know that he means a lot to them. They did, however, trade him to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2021 as he was on an expiring contract.
If Foligno wants to go have a fresh start with another organization, the Hawks might be a team he considers. He would be in the same division as his brother Marcus if he made that move which would be really cool as well. The Hawks probably wouldn’t have to pay him so much either which is nice and he would provide some solid production.
In 49 games with the Blue Jackets and Maple Leafs, he had seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points. It isn’t the production that he had in the earlier years of his career but he was also in a depth role on these teams. If he came to the Hawks, he might get a lot more ice than he did playing for those teams in 2021.
The Blackhawks are in an interesting position. Their GM thinks they’re a good team even though there is some ugly writing on the wall. If he does stick with that mentality, however, they might be wise to look at one of these Maple Leafs’ free agents.
