Chicago Blackhawks: 3 risky trade packages for Seth Jones
The Chicago Blackhawks might need to give up NHL players in order to land Seth Jones.
The Chicago Blackhawks, of course, give away that 2021 first-round pick to get Seth Jones no matter what else goes with it. One thing is for certain, you don’t want to be trading away a first-round pick for 2022 if you know you might not be that good in 2021-22. There is a generational talent at the top of that draft along with two other very good players. Even with Jones, the Hawks would be running into those chances next year with this roster.
The goal would be for them to be competitive in a few years with Jones on the blue line. That is why it wouldn’t hurt them too much to get rid of Nikita Zadorov and Calvin de Haan. Yea, in the case of de Haan, their defense might suffer for a year or two but it would get good relatively quickly. Zadorov isn’t that good anyway so letting him go in this deal is a no-brainer.
Dylan Strome leaving might be tough at first but they would get over it. They have Kirby Dach to come in and play center and you never know what comes next there. Trading that for a number one defenseman is something that almost never happens in this league. This is a deal that would earn them some cap space as well so they can give Jones an extension amongst other players.
Of course, getting any deal like this done is hard and not likely. However, it is fun to look at the possible different trade packages that might get the trade done. The Jackets are going to be sad to see him go but they might be able to land some really nice pieces.
