Target Three: Will Fuller V, WR – Houston Texans

Will Fuller might be someone to consider if the Chicago Bears do in fact need a WR.

Currently, the only Bears wide receivers under contract through 2022-23 are Darnell Mooney and Dazz Newsome. Robinson and Miller are both playing for new contracts and Goodwin and Byrd only signed 1-year deals. It is becoming evident that the Bears are putting themselves in a position to completely revamp their offense next spring around Justin Fields.

I believe Will Fuller would be an excellent signing for the Bears and would be made even better if they could also retain Robinson or sign Chris Godwin. Will Fuller, in a way, is what Anthony Miller looks like at his full potential. They are roughly the same size and have blazing fast 40-yard dash times.

Unfortunately, we have yet to see Miller reach his potential but in Houston, Fuller has proven himself to be one of the best deep-ball threats in the league with Deshaun Watson as his quarterback. Provide Fuller with Justin Fields who has exceptional deep-ball accuracy and the Bears’ offense could ascend to the next level.

Lastly, there are two more reasons why Will Fuller makes sense for the Bears. First, he will not cost as much as a true WR 1 like Robinson or Godwin, thereby making him much more affordable for the Bears. Second, Fuller is a guy that the Green Bay Packers have had their eye on as early as the trade deadline last season. Should Rodgers stay put in Green Bay, keeping a WR as dangerous as Fuller out of the division is worth the price of his contract alone.

Ultimately, the Chicago Bears have their work cut out for them next offseason. The defense is aging but there is a plethora of young talent across the roster that puts them in a position to contend as soon as Fields takes the field. The Bears are most definitely going to take advantage of the rookie contract to win a ring in this window and the 2022 free-agent class is ripe with upcoming stars who can help do just that.
