Chicago Blackhawks: 3 Florida Panthers free agents to steal
Alexander Wennberg would really help the Chicago Blackhawks forward group.
Unlike Nikita Gusev, there would be no risk involved with adding Alexander Wennberg. He is a phenomenal forward that plays the game the right way. You can always count on him to do the right thing when he is on the ice in all situations. At even strength, his team always has a chance to score which is exactly why he has a career CorsiFor of 51.1. It was an even better 52.5 in 2020-21.
Wennberg spent the first six years of his career playing with the Columbus Blue Jackets before making his way to the Florida Panthers ahead of the 2020-21 season. With them, he scored 17 goals and had 12 assists for 29 points in 56 games played. Those are really good numbers, especially the 17 goals, for a middle-six forward in a shortened season. It was just a one-year deal for him in Florida so he may be looking for a new home ahead of his age-27 season.
If the Hawks added a player like this, their entire forward group would change. You can’t call him a game-breaker or anything like that but he would be an upgrade at center over a lot of people. He makes the bottom six’s potential look significantly better. He may have enjoyed his time in Florida but if they choose to move on, the Hawks should be in the mix to grab him.
