Chicago Bears: 5 mind-blowing Justin Fields statistics
By Ryan Heckman
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is historically great on throws past his first read
Another complaint Bears fans have had over the past couple of years with Trubisky, in particular, is that he doesn’t do well going through his progressions. Many times, he became stuck on his first read. Other times, he simply didn’t see the open man on one of his reads and made the wrong throw.

Like the previous two areas of concern, this changes now.
Per Pro Football Focus once again, Fields had the highest grade on throws past his first read in this year’s draft class. Not only did he have the highest grade on such throws, but the guy he was long chasing in this year’s draft class, no. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence, came up pretty low on this list.
"“1st – Justin Fields – 90.6 2nd – Zach Wilson – 90.1 3rd – Trey Lance – 87.2 … 7th – Trevor Lawrence – 78.6 8th – Mac Jones – 75.7"
The fact Fields can go through his progressions and make the right read will do head coach Matt Nagy a lot of justice when it comes to executing his playbook. Nagy’s offense can be somewhat complex and creative, but it takes a mobile, intelligent quarterback to be able to execute the playbook to its fullest capacity.
Thankfully, Fields was the best in the business at making plays beyond just his first read. The Bears’ offense should look much different with a keen, aware and calculated quarterback.
