The Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants feel like great trade partners.

The Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants can absolutely work out a deal involving Craig Kimbrel. He would be perfect in the latter half of their bullpen as they look to try and make some noise this season. The Giants are one of the biggest surprises across baseball so far this season but they could use a bit more help as they play in a stacked division.

The only division that competes with the aforementioned American League East is this National League West. The San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers went into the season as projected favorites and rightfully so. However, the Giants have thrown a wrench in those plans as they look poised to stay right there all season long. If they added a reliever like Kimbrel, that would increase their chances of doing that.

Gregory Santos is currently listed as San Francisco’s number 13 prospect. He is a right-handed pitcher that the Boston Red Sox sent to the Giants in exchange for Eduardo Nunez. Casey Schmitt is listed as the Giants’ number 16 prospect. He is the third baseman that the Giants took in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft. Both of them play a position that has a future need for the Chicago Cubs.

There are no immediate rumors that the Cubs are openly shopping Kimbrel. However, he looks like someone who was on the decline but found the fountain of youth. Whenever that happens, it is always a good idea to move them before they lose their value again.

The Cubs are a good team so they might want to keep him but there are plenty of good bullpen arms to take over if Kimbrel left. Their place in the standings should not change the way they handle this situation.
