The Chicago Cubs might look for depth in prospect capital in a Craig Kimbrel trade.

The Philadelphia Phillies have some pressure to succeed based on how they have gone about their business. No team in the National League East has played particularly well to start the season so everyone has a chance. 2.0 games separate first place and last place in that division right now. The Phillies have a legit chance to win it if they can get their stuff together sooner rather than later. Any team in the division that goes on a run of winning 9 games out of 10 would take a stranglehold.

The Phillies have a lot invested in some important players like JT Realmuto and Bryce Harper. Getting them some of the proper support would go a long way in giving them a chance to win the division. Once you win the division, anything can happen in the playoffs. If they added a closer like Kimbrel pitching the way that he is, they could start to be confident in their abilities to close out games that they are leading.

As for the Cubs, they can still compete without Kimbrel because of the good young bullpen that they have. That is why adding some good prospects to the organization in place of Kimbrel could really help them out.

Erik Miller and Damon Jones are both left-handed pitchers that can come in and raise the level of the farm system. Miller is currently Philly’s number nine prospect and Jones is their number 16 prospect. It will be interesting to see if the Cubs can land prospects like this if they do decide to move on from Kimbrel.
