The Chicago Cubs have had one of the more up and down seasons of any team in Major League Baseball so far this year. There have been stretches that they have looked horrible and there have been stretches that they look amazing.

Lately, they have been very good. No matter where the team was, however, Craig Kimbrel has been a bright spot. His Cubs tenure as a whole has been a disaster so it is great to see him having so much success this season.

Craig Kimbrel’s 2021 season has been a revelation for the Chicago Cubs so far.

Going into the year, the Cubs couldn’t trade Kimbrel for a bag of baseballs. Now, his value has been as high as it ever was in his time with the organization. There are going to be people that see him as someone they should keep now but that is flawed logic. He could come crashing down at any time as recent history suggests and the team could fall off a cliff again.

The Cubs could probably land a decent haul for the former All-Star closer. He would provide a lot to a team that has serious aspirations of winning the World Series this year. A team might give up a really nice prospect in order to get him as well. It would also keep the Cubs from having him on their books anymore which has mostly been bad for them.

Unless they think they have a legit shot to win the World Series this year, getting rid of him now would be a really good look. Before he looked like someone who was untradable for the wrong reasons so getting him going is a great look on both him and the organization for staying patient up to this point.
