Chicago Bulls: Free agent point guards to compete with Coby White

Free agent point guards to compete with Chicago Bulls starter Coby White: Devonte’ Graham
The first point guard Chicago could choose to pursue this summer is Devonte’ Graham of the Charlotte Hornets. Graham is a restricted free agent, therefore the Hornets can choose to match any offer sheet he receives from another team.

But, with LaMelo Ball now the starting point guard, will they opt to pay Graham? Granted, Graham is more of a shooting guard at heart, but before Ball came along, he ran the point very well.
Over the 2019-2020 season, Graham posted 18.2 points and 7.5 assists per game. He was one of the more underrated point guards that season, particularly because he doesn’t shoot the ball well from the field. Graham essentially shoots the same percentage from the field, overall, as he does from three-point range (between 37-38 percent).
This past season, Graham’s averages went down a little bit due to Ball becoming their main point guard and he also struggled with injuries at times. Over the 2020-2021 season, Graham averaged 14.8 points and 5.4 assists, which is still respectable considering he shared the court with Ball for much of the year.
Graham might not be the sure fire answer at point guard, but he’d be excellent competition for White. He’s a similar player in that he scores in bunches, and somewhat inconsistently. Graham’s biggest weakness happens to be on the defensive side, where he finished with a pretty poor rating last season (116), per Basketball Reference. That would be the biggest red flag, even over his shooting.
Graham can facilitate, though, which is something the Bulls have to find this offseason.
