Chicago Bears: 5 valuable offensive free agents still available
By Ryan Heckman
Valuable offensive free agents the Chicago Bears can still sign: Rick Wagner
Lastly, the Bears are very familiar with this free agent tackle. Rick Wagner spent last year with the Green Bay Packers after starting for the Detroit Lions for three seasons. Wagner’s contract with Green Bay was originally for two years at $11 million, but he was released to save some cap room back in February.
Wagner did, at one point, contemplate retirement. But, the 31-year-old could still have a couple of years left in him if he wanted to play.
Like Okung, Wagner could come in and probably take over the starting right tackle spot in Chicago. But, he’d come a bit cheaper than Okung and would help the Bears work towards a more financially stable future.
The way Wagner ended the season for Green Bay, you’d think he would still want to play and could get a job fairly easily. According to Pro Football Focus, his last four games spent at right tackle just before the NFC Championship, Wagner played on 130 pass blocking snaps and allowed zero sacks, zero hits and only one pressure.
