Chicago Bears: 5 valuable offensive free agents still available
By Ryan Heckman
Valuable offensive free agents the Chicago Bears can still sign: Russell Okung
One obvious area the Bears could still make an addition to on offense is up front. The line seems pretty well set with rookie Teven Jenkins at left tackle, and then Cody Whitehair, James Daniels and Sam Mustipher on the inside.
The right tackle spot is up for grabs, though, with Germain Ifedi and Larry Borom likely competing there. If Chicago wanted to solidify it with one move, they could go out and get veteran Russell Okung, who is still looking for a team.
Over the years, Okung has been one of the better offensive tackles in the league when healthy. He has made two Pro Bowl with two different teams and, for some reason, has been passed around a bit since leaving his original team, the Seattle Seahawks.
Okung’s only season with the Carolina Panthers was in 2020, and he appeared in just seven games due to injury. Hopefully, his two straight years of injuries are not a sign of what’s to come. At 32 years old, Okung is definitely getting up there in age but has been rock solid when on the field.
If the Bears signed Okung to a relatively manageable contract, he would be well-worth the spending and would start immediately.
