Chicago Bears: 3 veterans who can still be cut for cap space
The Chicago Bears have a tight end of the future to replace Jimmy Graham.
When the Chicago Bears signed Jimmy Graham to be one of their tight ends, it wasn’t a popular decision amongst the fanbase. They needed a tight end which was obvious but they went out and got the oldest free agent they could. It was very similar to what happened this offseason with Andy Dalton. It is annoying that they always start out by annoying the fanbase before they make them feel better.
Just like the quarterback situation, they also drafted someone with their first pick in addition to bringing in the veteran. Instead of it being in the first round, however, their first pick in 2020 was in the second round. They used that pick to select Cole Kmet out of Notre Dame. He is the guy that they are hoping to come in and be the new tight end long term.
Fortunately for the Bears, Jimmy Graham was actually pretty good in 2020. They targeted him a good amount whether it was Nick Foles or Mitchell Trubisky and he was very productive. However, with Kmet in the mix, it makes sense to save a bit of money on Graham and start developing the kid. If they develop him into a great player, he can be one of the pillars on offense for a long time. That wouldn’t happen fight away with Graham there.
