Veterans unlikely to make the Chicago Bears roster: James Vaughters

One could argue that the Bears’ linebacker room is loaded. On another hand, another could argue they need to add one more guy on the inside. However, veteran James Vaughters plays on the outside and he’ll have a tough time sticking around this year.

The Bears currently have Khalil Mack, Robert Quinn and Trevis Gipson returning from a year ago. To take the place of Barkevious Mingo, Chicago signed veteran Jeremiah Attaochu who is a near lock to make this roster.

Vaughters is a solid player and gives the Bears a high-energy, high-effort reserve linebacker on this roster. However, with the addition of Attaochu, that almost seals Vaughters’ fate. It’s unlikely the Bears keep five outside linebackers on the final roster, and there’s no chance they part ways with a guy like Gipson after drafting him just last year.

We could see Vaughters end up on the practice squad, but he’s a good enough player where he’ll likely get a shot elsewhere. If he doesn’t, the Bears would be lucky to keep him around as a practice squad member.
