Chicago Bears: 5 logical defensive free agents still available

Logical defensive free agents for the Chicago Bears: S Kenny Vaccaro
The Tennessee Titans let go of former first-round pick Kenny Vaccaro this year in order to save some cap space. Still just 30 years old, Vaccaro has a few good years left in him. For eight seasons now, Vaccaro has been a starting safety in this league. Could he still offer a team like the Bears starting potential?
Maybe, maybe not. Right now, the Bears have Eddie Jackson and Tashaun Gipson as their returning safety starters. But, Vaccaro would be tremendous depth to have on this roster.
One area Vaccaro has consistently been great at is rushing the passer. If he’s asked to play near the line of scrimmage, he’s almost always in on the action. He’s crafty when trying to work around opposing blockers and make his way to the quarterback, but he’s also strong against the run.
Because he’s a more physical safety, one possibility is for the Bears to try him in the slot. Right now, they still don’t have a solid, starting slot cornerback. Vaccaro may be an asset in the slot if he’s open to trying it out.
Vaccaro may not be excellent in coverage at this point in his career, but adding him for depth would make the safety unit much stronger. His physicality has always been one of his strengths (no pun intended), and a veteran like him would give the Bears plenty of versatility within their safety group.
