Chicago Bulls: 3 reasons Zach LaVine deserves max contract extension
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bulls’ best chance at staying relevant is to give Zach LaVine max money
Despite the Bulls now having Vucevic, a lot of the star free agents may not want to play for the Bulls, and definitely won’t want to come to Chicago if they ultimately allow LaVine to leave.
Trying to get a key free agent to sign in Chicago has been difficult for years now, and will only become more difficult if LaVine walks next summer. The way he’s established himself this year as one of the best in the game should speak volumes to his peers.
Chicago’s best chance at signing a top free agent is right now while LaVine is in a Bulls uniform, and those chances will only increase if he sticks around for years to come.
The other side of this is, the Bulls won’t have a ton of options this summer in terms of free agents. There are a few guys who could become intriguing if they were interested in signing with the Bulls, but overall, the free agent pool isn’t as great as some other recent years have been.
Ensuring they lock up their star guard to go with their star center is in the best interest of the team’s future. Most of the competitive teams nowadays have that big three, or at least big two. The Bulls cannot afford to let that number slip to one. LaVine has earned a max extension, and Chicago should do whatever they can to make that happen.
