Chicago Bears: Top 5 quotes from Justin Fields’ rookie minicamp
By Ryan Heckman
Justin Fields’ mission is to be the Chicago Bears’ starting quarterback
"“I’m going to do everything that I can to get that starting job.”"
Lastly, Fields is clearly on a mission. It’s pretty simple: he wants to be the Bears’ starting quarterback.
There are no secrets in Chicago. Andy Dalton is the starting quarterback right now. But, for how long?
Dalton said himself that he came to Chicago because he was told he’d be the starter. Dalton might be a nice guy, but being guaranteed the job seems like a pretty entitled reason to come to Chicago. He wasn’t exactly stepping into a fiery competition when he signed.
But now? That’s all changed. Dalton has more competition than he can handle, and Fields is coming for him.
Last year, Dalton could hardly put points on the board with the likes of Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup. What makes the coaching staff so confident in his ability to be a starting quarterback at this stage in his career?
The writing is on the wall for Dalton. He’s not going to be this team’s starting quarterback for very long. If I was a betting man, I’d wager that Fields wins the starting job in training camp and takes the big stage in Week 1 versus the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football.
He’s not about to back down and accept the second-string job. Fields will be the starter sooner than everyone (except himself) thinks.
