Free agent cornerbacks the Chicago Bears could still add: Gareon Conley

One of the more forgotten free agents right now is former Houston Texans and Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Gareon Conley. Back in 2017, Conley was a first-round pick by the Raiders out of Ohio State. He came to the silver and black after posting a strong senior season which featured top-notch ball production (eight passes defensed and four interceptions).

As a Raider, Conley went on two appear in just two games his rookie season due to a shin injury. But, over the next two years, Conley played well. His second season in the league saw him total 15 passes defensed, three interceptions and one defensive touchdown. To date, it’s his best season as a pro.

The following year, he was traded to the Houston Texans. Between the Raiders and Texans, Conley totaled 13 passes defensed and one interception.

The 2020 season was a difficult one for him, though, after he rushed himself back from an ankle injury. The Texans ended up seeing Conley placed on injured reserve and he never played a game last year.

Now a free agent after seeing his fifth-year option declined, Conley is looking for his second NFL contract. It won’t be a big one, though. Still, Conley is well-worth signing if you’re the Bears. He’s still very young and has produced in the past. If he’s healthy, Conley could be a sneaky addition to this team. Again, his ball production is excellent. He’s a pass disruptor by nature, and the Bears could use another one like him.
