Chicago Bears: 4 underrated free agents left to sign after draft

Underrated free agents for Chicago Bears to sign post-draft: TE Darren Fells
The Bears’ current tight end room is pretty top-heavy. They have Cole Kmet and Jimmy Graham who will take up the majority of snaps, but beyond those two, the team doesn’t have a strong blocking tight end.
Veteran Darren Fells is now 35 years old, but he isn’t necessarily slowing down. His body has held up well over the years, and he should have a little more left in the tank considering he got a late start as a pro back in 2014.
Fells would be a nice addition to the tight end room, specifically because he is a solid blocking tight end. Now, he’s also 6-foot-7, so Fells provides some mismatch opportunities in the red zone as well. But, Chicago has a need at tight end when it comes to blocking and the in-line type.
Last year, they had veteran Demetrius Harris but they have not brought him back for the 2021 season. Harris is obviously still an option as he knows the system, but Fells could be a real cheap player to bring in at this stage of his career. Last year, Fells did catch four touchdowns for the Houston Texans. So, he’s not strictly a blocker. He does offer some pass-catching for when the Bears get creative in heavy sets.
