Al-Farouq Aminu was a part of the Nikola Vucevic trade that the Chicago Bulls made.

Al-Farouq Aminu was once an excellent defender in the NBA. Back in the 2014-2015 NBA season, Aminu recorded a 102 defensive rating in the NBA. That would have him ranked seventh-best in that category today.

Aminu has guarded players like LeBron James as recently as the 2018 NBA season when he played for the Portland Trail Blazers. He is an excellent on-ball defender but sticks to the bench most of the time. Aminu has not improved nor played much since joining the Bulls team.

Since he joined the Bulls back on March 25, Aminu has played in just six games. He has scored a total of nine points on ten field goals attempted. Donovan flashed him in the lineup once he got to the team but he hardly ever plays unless the lineup empties during a blowout win/loss. That is not the role that he is going to want to play as he moves forward in his career.

Aminu’s contract is not healthy either. He is the fifth-highest played player on the Bulls right now, making close to $10 million per year. He will have one more year on his contract after this season. The Bulls might cut their losses with him and send him to free agency, considering he hardly contributes.
