The Chicago Bears still need to address the linebacker position

Trevethan is a solid run-coverage linebacker, massing 113 tackles, which was second on the team last season behind Roquan Smith. The problem with Trevathan is his pass covering abilities.

Last season, Trevathan a 78 percent completion percentage against his matchups. The season before that, he let up 87.5 percent of his matchups to catch the ball. Trevathan is nowhere near athletic enough to keep up with tight ends nor running backs in pass coverage, constantly running them down from behind.

The Bears strongly need depth at this position. Josh Woods failed to show any flashes of support in the two games he stepped in for Smith last season. Joel Iyiegbuniwe has only played 49 snaps through three years in his career.

Again, the Bears dipped their toes into undrafted free agents and took Caleb Johnson out of Houston Baptist University, the school’s first player to sign with an NFL team, according to their website.

He recorded 49 tackles last season, ranking second in the country. He was named Co-Defensive Player of the year in the Southland Conference. Another player to look out for come training camp to fill the gap of depth at the linebacker position.
