Pick Analysis. North Texas. Jaelon Darden. 3. player. Scouting Report. WR. 57

One of the most exciting players in this draft was on the board at pick 83, and the Bears could not pass him up here. North Texas wide receiver Jaelon Darden is a walking, talking, touchdown-scoring machine.

This kid could end up being the next Tyreek Hill type, and that’s a pretty big comparison. Last year, Darden caught 74 passes for 1,190 yards — an average of over 16 yards per reception. He also scored a whopping 19 touchdowns in just nine games.

Darden is a sneaky, slippery weapon who can slide right past the secondary on any given down. Once he makes a move, and has you beat, it’s off to the races. There is no easy way to match up against his skills other than keeping a man in front of him at all times. Still, if he’s given any space, he’s going to be hard to catch whether it’s vertically or sideline-to-sideline.

Adding Darden to the receiving core of Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney would give the Bears a trio of guys who can do some serious damage. Mooney is obviously a big play waiting to happen at any given point, and so is Darden. Getting those two on the field at the same time would create nightmares for defenses.

Because he’s just about 5-foot-9, and comes from a small program, Darden likely won’t get drafted higher than the third round. But, in a creative offense (which Matt Nagy can hopefully provide), Darden will become a steal for the right team.
