Best available for the Chicago Bears at pick 20: OL Alijah Vera-Tucker, USC

The draft’s top interior lineman could fall to the Bears at pick no. 20, in USC’s Alijah Vera-Tucker. This guy is a plug-and-play lineman on the interior and should be in for a long, long career in the NFL.

Vera-Tucker is a strong dude, but doesn’t have that mauling strength like a Quenton Nelson. However, that is not necessarily a bad thing. Vera-Tucker’s strength is centered around his core. He’s very level and doesn’t get moved back. Instead, he can lock onto opposing defensive lineman and point them in the direction he wants them to go, opening up holes for the run game or keeping his quarterback clean.

He has experience playing left tackle, too, which makes him a very intriguing prospect. At first glance, one would think the Bears don’t need an interior lineman in the first round. They have James Daniels, Cody Whitehair and Sam Mustipher as essential locks to start this coming season. However, if Vera-Tucker can swing out and play tackle, he becomes a very, very interesting pick.

Charles Leno’s days are numbered. Bobby Massie is gone. The Bears don’t have long-term options at tackle right now, and if Vera-Tucker can overcome his lack of length to be a firm tackle as a pro, then so be it. He could be the pick. If he’s on the board at 20, he very well could be the absolute best player available.
