Round One, Pick 20

The Chicago Bears need some help on their offensive line before they do anything.

The Chicago Bears saw their offensive line improve in 2020 as the season went along but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it was a disaster during a lot of it. It was more apparent how bad it was when Nick Foles was under center because he is a statue. Mitchell Trubisky was able to mask it a little bit more. Trubisky is not a good quarterback by any means but he certainly was better than Foles and the offensive line helped us understand that later in the season.

Drafting Christian Darrisaw from Virginia Tech would be a smart move for them as an organization. Drafting an offensive tackle certainly isn’t the fun pick to make but that doesn’t mean it isn’t the right pick to make. Darrisaw is a very good tackle that would help the Bears on their offensive line tremendously. It is something they absolutely need to consider if they stay at pick 20.

By the time they come up to the stage unless they make a trade to move up, all of the first-round quarterbacks are going to be gone anyway. Even if they did have a young quarterback to develop, it won’t help if he is running for his life on every snap. Fixing the line and making sure it is good is the most important thing for this team right now. Once they establish that, they might be able to look at drafting a young quarterback.
