Chicago Bears 7-Round Mock Draft: Add a key piece in first round
The Chicago Bears have been one of the most mediocre teams in all of football over the last few seasons. They went 12-4 in 2018 and everybody thought that a period of sustained success was on the horizon. They followed that with 2019 and 2020 seasons that both ended at 8-8. The 2020 season ended in the playoffs because each conference added an extra playoff team. If they don’t want to fail to meet expectations again in 2021, they should probably do well in the upcoming NFL Draft.
The Chicago Bears have a lot of interesting options to consider in the 2021 Draft.
This draft’s biggest storyline is “the big five”. That refers to the five quarterbacks to be taken in the first two-thirds (and potentially in the first half) of the first round. Trevor Lawrence is going to be the first overall pick made by the Jacksonville Jaguars. After that, Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, Tre Lance, and Mac Jones are going to be taken in any order throughout the first round.
The Chicago Bears may or may not trade up so they can get one of those guys if they can. They really need help at the position which is well documented. For the sake of this seven-round mock draft, we are going to assume that the big five are taken by the time the Bears get on the board at pick number 20. Just because they won’t get any of those guys, however, doesn’t mean that they can’t get a player that can be a key player for a long time.
If Ryan Pace wants to keep his job beyond 2021, he needs to do well in this draft. He is on thin ice and probably shouldn’t be brought back anyway. He is back though so they should let him do his job and evaluate him on how this year goes. This might be a good draft for him if executed and they get this good first-round piece:
