The later rounds of the NFL Draft are usually where the Chicago Bears succeed.

RD3: Michigan OT, Jaylen Mayfield
Jaylen Mayfield, an offensive tackle with the ability to also play guard, is just what the Chicago Bears need. Mayfield is being talked about as a second-round pick but after only playing 2 games in 2020 and a total of 15 total starts in his college career at Michigan, I expect Mayfield to be a diamond in the rough in the 3rd round. Mayfield’s agility and strength should make him an NFL-type tackle with the ability to keep up with athletic edge rushers.

RD4: Notre Dame edge rusher, Ade Ogundeji
Ogundeji, coming off the edge at 6’4 260lbs has what it takes to fly under the radar until scratching the surface as a premier edge rusher in the NFL. Although a later-round draft pick, Ade recorded 7 sacks this past season for the Irish.

Ogundeji’s long frame and pass rush ability make him a great pick for the Bears. With the elite pass-rushing of Khalil Mack accompanied by Robert Quinn, Ade should have a great opportunity to work in as the next option backing up the two.  Chicago prides itself on great defense, with the motor and consistent improvement of Ogundeji I think he’ll make for a fan favorite at Soldier Field.

RD5: Notre Dame QB, Ian Book
Book, continues to slide down on the draft boards after his senior season, but how? In his junior and senior seasons, Book has thrown 49 touchdown passes while only totaling 9 interceptions.  His smart decision-making, footwork, mobility, and ability to throw on the run out of the pocket should make him a higher draft priority.

After the Bears have had their fair share of struggles at the quarterback position it might not be a bad idea to look at Book in later rounds to become the city’s hero. Book’s 6-foot stature could be the reason he isn’t getting the praise like some other QB’s in this draft but hey neither did Russell Wilson. Ian Book showed great things against high-level competition,

Clemson in particular is where he carried the Fighting Irish to a 47-40 overtime thriller, completing 56% of his passing while throwing for 310 yards and a touchdown. Book also rushed for 485 yards on the season.
