The Chicago Bears are aided by Sam Darnold in a trade for Justin Fields

By the time the Carolina Panthers are on the clock at pick number eight overall, the Bears have to be getting antsy if Fields is still available. At this stage, we’re no longer talking about three first-round picks. Instead, a solid package of picks could get the Bears moved up about a dozen spots.

The Panthers are a phenomenal trade partner after they made a deal to acquire former Jets quarterback Sam Darnold. With Darnold now locked in as their starting quarterback, Carolina also has to figure out what to do with Teddy Bridgewater. But, that’s besides the point here.

In efforts to draft Fields at the number eight overall pick, the Bears send Carolina their no. 20 pick this year, a third rounder this year, and then a second and fourth rounder in next year’s draft.

The Bears only have to give up one first-round pick, which is a huge win. But, Carolina is not short on draft capital after this deal. They will be able to add four great talents over the next two drafts as opposed to just one this year.

Back to the Bears’ side, though. Still possessing a first-round pick next year is a big win. Not having to give up multiple firsts makes Ryan Pace look like a hero, here. That’s the biggest win of all, aside from Fields, of course.
