Former Chicago Bears WR Johnny Morris deserves the HOF over Julian Edelman

When you think of wide receivers and the Bears, a few key names come to mind. But, one that may not surface immediately is Johnny Morris. A lot of Bears fans probably don’t even know who this guy is.

The truth is, Morris was voted one of the top 100 Bears of all time and is still currently the franchise leader in receiving yards. Over his 10 year career, Morris caught 356 passes for 5,059 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Morris earned many titles over his decade in the NFL, including Pro Bowler, All Pro, NFL receptions leader, NFL receiving yards leader, NFL receiving touchdowns leader and, most importantly, NFL champion.

Back in 1958, Morris was a 12th round selection out of the University of California Santa Barbara. The Bears used him in a variety of ways throughout his career, and he was technically labeled as a running back/wide receiver.

Comparing Morris to Edelman, both were pretty similar players. However, Edelman never led the NFL in receptions, receiving yards nor receiving touchdowns. He was always Mr. Reliable for Tom Brady, but never “the guy.” Edelman has never made a Pro Bowl, nor has he ever been voted an All Pro. Morris played two less seasons than Edelman as well.
