Chicago Bears NFL Draft 2021: Desperate trades to make within NFC North
By Ryan Heckman
A trade up for their quarterback costs the Chicago Bears quite a bit
No matter what mock drafts are saying right now, the Detroit Lions’ smartest pick at no. 7 overall would be taking an offensive tackle. Still having Jared Goff under center, the Lions can afford to wait a year or so before they try for their next franchise quarterback.
If they were at all up for trading that no. 7 overall pick, the Bears would love to move up and take their shot on a first-round quarterback.
In this scenario, the Bears would send their no. 20 pick this year, a first-round pick next year, a third rounder this year and a fourth rounder next year in exchange for Detroit’s 7th overall selection.
At this stage, there very well could only be one first-round quarterback left. However, with Kyle Pitts and Penei Sewell likely going before pick no. 7, the Bears might end up having their choice between two of them. It largely depends upon whether the Miami Dolphins take a guy like LSU receiver Ja’Marr Chase.
The only guarantee is that Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson will be off the board, meaning the Bears may land one of Justin Fields, Trey Lance or Mac Jones at number seven overall.
